What is HCG? -- HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a natural hormone that happens only in pregnancy. During the peak of its production in pregnancy, it can reach 1,000,000 or higher international units (IU) per day. It is also a FDA approved medication used to aid in treating infertility.
It is given only a very small amount everyday (125 IU per day, about 2-5 day pregnant level). The exact mechanism is still unclear, but it seems to influence the fat mobilization and basal metabolism regulation in our brain, particularly in our hypothalamus area.
Before the treatment, we need to understand fat. -- There are 3 kinds of fat.
1) The structural fat which fills up gaps between the various organs, a sort of the packing material. This is essential for the body to function, like sitting and standing.
2) The second type of fat is a normal reserve of fuel upon which the body can freely draw when the nutritional income becomes insufficient to meet the demand.
3) The third type of fat is just entirely abnormal. It provides neither the energy reservoir for the emergency uses nor the essential function for the everyday bodily operation. This is the fat deposit that can cause the unpleasant appearance and illnesses and is very resistant to the regular diet and exercise. This is the fat HCG can target.
The HCG Diet Protocol is based on the manuscript of past Dr. Simeons of Italy. He used 40 years of his experience and study to help patients lose weight and formulate this manuscript which is very detail oriented. Every detail has its meaning and wisdom and can not and should not be changed. Every step of this protocol needs to be followed strictly for 23 days to allow HCG to work and hypothalamus to adapt the new fat regulation. You should stop the program immediately if becoming ill from it and report it to the physician right away; otherwise, no cheating or alterations are allowed if you want the program to work for you.
To start, you need to arrange the minimum of 23 days of HCG use. You have the option to extend the HCG treatment to 44 days if more weight loss is desired. It is also important to ask friends and family for support and encouragement. Again, the protocol needs to be strictly followed.
Day 1 and 2. This is a very important step of the program. You start the HCG today. You also need to binge and gorge, taking in as many calories as you can and as much fat as you can for these initial 2 days. The extra calories and fat will fill up the emergency energy reservoir in your body while HCG starts mobilizing and metabolizing the abnormal fat. The extra calories and fat will also enhance the response of our brain to HCG and satisfy our hungry center in hypothalamus. Again, it is a very important step. The more you eat, the more results you see with HCG.
Day 3 to 23 (or to the max of Day 44). You continue the HCG use as usual. In addition, you start the 500 calorie/day diet for the next 21 days and do not look back. 23 days of HCG are the minimal requirement for all patients. In only 3 weeks, you will see the transformation. This is the unique function of HCG which allow the body to function properly with only 500 calorie/day. Yet, to get the best long lasting results, the diet plan needs to be followed strictly without cheating and substitution. If more weight loss is desired, the HCG use and 500 calorie/day diet can be continued for another 21 days. Drink at least 2 liters or 2 quarts of water everyday. More water is even better.
Day 24, 25, 26 or Day 45, 46, 47. The following 3 days after HCG treatment still require the 500 calorie/day diet until HCG is completely gone in your body. After these 3 days, then you enter the maintenance phase.
Maintenance Phase. Congratulations, you have done it. You have reset your metabolism and regained the control. This is the phase you maintain weight, not lose weight any more. If you have more weight to lose, you can restart another 23 days of HCG and 500 calorie/day diet after 6 weeks of maintenance. To maintain weight, there are 3 important steps to follow:
1) Weigh yourself in every morning with the same scale after getting up and the bathroom break.
2) If you weigh 2 pounds more than your last HCG weight, perform a Steak Day. Dr. Simeons’ Steak Day is: “Skip breakfast and lunch but take plenty of water. In the evening, eat a huge steak with only an apple or a raw tomato.”
3) Eat whenever you are hungry and whatever you want, without sugars and starches. You need to eat at least 1500 calories a day with adequate protein portion. The most common mistake patients make is: not eating enough. This limited food and calorie intake from this point on will bring your body’s metabolism set point back to the pretreatment level of which you will gain weight even with eating less. Remember, you eat whenever and whatever you want without sugars and starches. Eating less actually will cause more damage.
In addition to the HCG diet program, the followings are also important to maintain the healthy living.
-- Avoid sugars, starches, fats, fast foods, restaurants, and processed foods.
-- Stevia ok for sugar substitute, simple carbohydrates and small amount of healthy fat and oil are important.
-- Plenty of water everyday.
